Ankle Sprains

Ankle Sprains are straining and sometimes tearing of ligaments that provide stability to the ankle joint, either on the medial (inside) or lateral (outside) part of your ankle. Ankle sprains can vary in severity, so if you have one and have difficulty placing weight on the foot or walking afterwards, you should be seen right away. Ankle sprains can also often be accompanied by a fracture to the ankle, increasing the urgency for immediate evaluation.

In the case of minor sprains that result in repeat occurrences, these over time can lead to the ankle feeling unstable and make you feel less confident when walking or performing certain activities. Often times these cases will be offered surgery when a patient sees a doctor for a consultation. My belief is that the vast majority of patients can improve without surgery, provided that they have a solid physical therapy protocol and are patient through the process–which I will help them through.

If you have sprained your ankle numerous times and are feeling less confident in your ability to walk or do other activities that you love, I would recommend coming in for an evaluation to see how I can help.
